What Is Ugly Preaching

WHAT IS UGLY PREACHING:

Charles 10 25 14a
First: if you are the hero of all your own stories you are done., When you do that its artificial, that is a crutch that's what people do when they haven't got anything biblical to say they can talk about themselves. Example Joyce Meyers.

Second: misinterpreting the scripture failure to draw out of scripture what is there.

Thirdly: This dominant sort of proud self promoting personality, this sort of personal spiritual heroism.

Good point about preaching: Your sermon, you handing the Word of God should have nothing to do with the time or the place in which you gave the message. In other words the sermon I peached on Romans in 1983 should be as it would be preached in 2014 If you cant get your sermon out of your zip code and out of the month, you better get rid of that sermon, if it doesn't transcend anytime and anyplace it can't be a true interpretation of scripture (Spurgeon, Martin Lloyd-Jones for example) Talking about the interpretation not necessarily how you apply that.

Look to think you have to bring out the Word of God and put it in the context of modern culture is not what I call good preaching.
The content of the message that you preach from your pulpit on Sunday should be able to be listen to in the rice paddy in Viet man.
What does that tell you about how you should preach? You don't want to get caught up in the contemporary trap of taking to some niche audience or you will paint yourself into the corner of obsolescence. If all you are preaching   is in a time zone than you are going to be obsolete.

The old TV shows, they were make with the idea that they wanted to be timeless, So what was said in 1950 they would be good in 2014.
Here is the point of preaching: if you handle the Word of God right, in and of itself its transcended. MacArthur's sermons are downloads 3 million times in one month to 204 countries. Same sermon in 204 countries. God's word is transcended.

1. Sound Theology
2. Hard work in exposition
3. Making sure that your message is the message of the Word of God that will transcend your moment in time.
4. Your sermon will be transcended from your location.
5. And your sermon can be anywhere in the planet and it can be used by God anywhere to any people.

So many preachers want to preach in the context of the culture. But its not what John does.

Its is not that Jo
hn does not care about the audience, its that he is asking the text questions that matter to the audience.

I skipped a lot, down to 35 minutes he said this (I will go back)

Unless there is a driving internal motivation on the part of the person listening to be obedient to this truth and where's that comes from that doesn't come from cleverness, that doesn't come from the environment you're in, it doesn't come from the music.

Obedience comes internally from the love of Christ, that is because you love Christ, because you have such a vision of Christ, such a revelation of Christ brought home to you by the preaching the Word of God, you have been so caught up in the wonder of who Jesus Christ is and you love him and didn't
