Why Do People Do Bad Things?

Several years ago back in 1972 I was a probation officer for the Scioto Country Juvenile Court system and one of my reprehensibility to made a pre investigations for the Judge to made a decision.

They wanted to know WHY would boys do what they do?  Now move to 2013 and they are still trying to figure out why people do what people do?

In the report from the Sandy Hook case, they came out with the report today and they still do not know why the person did what he did?  Killing 20 children and six adults and his own mother.  Why you say?

From a Christian World view we know from Scripture, which is our information book on human behavior, mankind is by his very nature bend on doing what is seen as wrong.   If mankind would live according to the Word of God and the Ten Commandment then there would have to be no laws I guess.

The problem people want to do what is right in their own eyes.  They want to do what seems to be right in their thinking.  Everyone generally has the same brain that God has given them.  What has happen is that within us there is this nature that has been corrupted by what the Bible calls sin.

Definition of sin:

     a :  an offense against religious or moral law

     b :  an action that is or is felt to be highly reprehensible <it's a sin to waste food>

     c :  an often serious shortcoming :  fault

     a :  transgression of the law of God

     b :  a vitiated state of human nature in which the self is estranged from God

Sin is the element that is in all mankind, there is a nature within all mankind that is bend on doing what is not right or in the bibical since, no doing what God would want us to do.

So why do seemly good people do bad things? First there are really no really good people.  We are all bad in the sense we have this attitude that is usually wanting to do that which is right in our own eyes.

What goes on in the minds of many people is usually not good thinking. And if they could get away with doing what they wanted we would all be dead.  If our attitude was fully blown into action there would be a really bad world to live in, which it is already a bad world.

It is so bad that we have to lock our doors at our house, lock our car doors when we go shopping.  We can't let our kids out of our sight for a moment it seems.  We really are a society that is afraid of getting mugged or get killed by some means.  So many of us live in fear., We have to lock down what we want to keep. We never know when someone is going to get into our bank account at clear our money out. You get the point!

So you ask why then do mankind do such bad things to people?  Its a nature problem.  We all have within us this nature that is bad.  We see bad things happen every minute of of the day.

3:  criminal activity <efforts to fight crime>

4:  something reprehensible, foolish, or disgraceful  

So we try to stop CRIME. I read there are 20,000 gun laws.  And yet people are killed or wounded every minute of the day>

Six of those deaths have been children under the age of 13, and another 21 were youths under the age of 17. 

 A crime is committed in England and Wales every five seconds, according to new ... A quarter of the 3,000 people referred to victim support each day were ...

Well there are all kinds of laws that are on the books that most people break in their life time many times I guess.

But even Christians break laws that are on the books. But what I am talking about in crime that is harmful to mankind, and breaking the laws of God.  Why do we do those things. The bible calls it SIN, and sin is that which indwells our being that causes us to want to do what we know we don't want to do. Romans seven gives us a idea about that.

The Bible teaches us that we are controlled by the spirit of a sinful nature.  Which causes us to want to do what we are not suppose to do.  Every child born usually has this desire not to be controlled by their parents.

Thus when when we think a person is normal and good, we discover they are rally every bad people.

The society calls it mental illness. Well it is mental illness and that is called a sinful nature.
