WHAT DOES A TRULY Christian HOME
LOOK
Pastor/teacher Charles e Whisnant
Way back in 1992 when I was at First Baptist Church in Altoona Kansas I taught Proverbs 14.
Then when I came to Rivers of Joy Baptist Church in Minford, Ohio I taught Proverbs again 2010
Proverbs 14:1 "EVERY WISE WOMAN BUILDETH HER
HOUSE."
Our consideration tonight deals with the Christian home. Is
it possible to have a Christ
centered home in 1992, with all the sin and trouble in the world? The truth of
the matter is, you know it and I know it, the home falls far short of any such description.
Christian homes are facing difficulty, lets not fool ourselves. For the most part, Christian homes
come pitifully short of the Biblical
norms; and we are all aware of it, or at least we should
1A WHAT DOES A TRULY
CHRISTIAN HOME LOOK LIKE?
Have we a picture that the Christian home is like the Cleavers (Leave it to Beaver) or the Harriet's of the
1960's? Where the father has the right answers
and mother is always doing the right things?
The matter of the fact is, the Christian home
is where sinners live.
The Scripture does not teach is that the Christian home is
perfect. But a picture of parents who
fail and often fail miserably. Where their children often fail and certainly
fail God. Where children bring home D's and F's on the report cards and throw tantrums
in the shopping mall. As a matter of fact husbands and wives quarrel, and get irritated with one
another! Its true.
2A WHAT MAKES THEN THE CHRISTIAN HOME DIFFERENT FROM
THE HOUSE NEXT DOOR?
IB The Bible never gives a
picture of saved people living perfect.
Thus everyone is involved in a
lifelong process of sanctification. This process brings us more and more like
Jesus Christ, the goal is reached at death. So what is the difference
between the home that does not know Christ and the one that does?
1C CHRISTIANS ADMIT THEIR
SINS:
I John 1:8-10. Christians
are able to acknowledge the fact, and in time, learn to
anticipate and prepare for sin. The Christian in this home learns not to rationalize,
make excuses, or blameshift the problem to
others. The do not have to cover up what they know is sin, but confess
it to the Lord. With the freedom to admit the truth comes the possibility of repentance, and with repentance
there can be forgiveness and help
from God and from one another.
Thus they can rapidly
progress out of sinful living patterns as a result. They can then put
their time and energies into the endeavor to replace sinful patterns with
Biblical patterns of life. Rather then wasting time denying the fact of sin, CHRISTIANS CAN CONCENTRATE ON
DEALING WITH SIN.
2C CHRISTIANS KNOW WHAT TO DO ABOUT THEIR SIN.
With the Bible and knowing
its standard and truth, Christians know how to deal with problems when
they occur in the home. They can use Biblical precepts and examples successfully
to handle and recoup from every occurrence of sin. The Bible largely deals with
the common problems found in the Christian home.
3C CHRISTIANS PROGRESS OUT OF THEIR SINS.
Where there is spiritual life, there also will
be spiritual growth. No Christian can remain the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow. There will be growth out of sin
into righteousness. With Bible Study,
prayer, witness, and the fellowship of the saints and the Spirit of God that will be
working to produce God's fruits in their life. (Colossians 2:3)
