The Law Cannot Justified

ALL PEOPLE HAVE BEEN FOUND GUILTY BY THE LAW OF GOD
Charles e. Whisnant August 08, 2010 ROMANS 3:20
Romans  3:20 because by the works of the Law
no
*
flesh will be justified in His sight; for through the Law comes the knowledge of sin.

"THEREFORE BY THE DEEDS OF THE LAW THERE SHALL NO FLESH BE JUSTIFIED IN HIS SIGHT; FOR BY THE LAW IS THE KNOWLEDGE OF SIN"
No person can justify himself before God by a perfect performance of the Law's demands, it is the purpose of the Law that shows us how crooked we are.
In this verse Paul does two things:
1A    He explains that no one will be declared righteous (justified) in God's sight by works of the law, i.e. "doing right."
2A    He explains that the business of God's Law is to make known to men their sin, and, thereby, their need of a salvation which the Law cannot supply.
THEREFORE: (BECAUSE)

  • Indicates why something just stated can be reasonably considered valid. Paul has argued that there is no exception that someone could live up to the perfect standard of God's Law.

  • The fact is that doing perfectly what God's moral law requires is impossible.

  • Therein is the first principle in all Paul's spiritual thinking, everyone must come to the knowledge that they cannot perfectly live by the standard of God's Law. Therefore, everything must be true which can be deduced from it.
By the deeds (works)

OF THE LAW

  • Means a deed or action in contrast to inactivity. It speaks of toil or effort in which one exerts strength or services to do or perform something. Works are the result of and never the means of salvation.
There shall NO FLESH
4661

  • All flesh. i.e. No person is justified. Genesis 6:12.
BE JUSTIFIED
1344 IN HIS SIGHT

  • To be declared righteous before God or to be justified, the process is used as "justification."

  • HEREIN LIES THE ABSOLUTELY CRUCIAL MESSAGE OF THE WHOLE CHRISTIAN FAITH. We must understand the truth of justification.
If you ask me what I believe is the number one thing that I should know about you, I would say, "Have you been justified in the sight of God?" Which means: Have you been born again? And how do you know that you have been justified or made righteous in God's sight?
FOR

  • Expressing the reason for what has been before. Paul explains that even the Law cannot save, it does have a purpose.
BY THE or THROUGH
1223

  • Conveys the sense of being instrumental in doing its purpose.
THE LAW
3551

  • The divine standard of God
IS THE KNOWLEDGE
1922

  • "of a knowledge which powerfully influences the form of one's religious life.

  • This knowledge brings to light every person's condition before God.

  • A knowledge that will give acquaintance to his condition. A recognition of the law.
OF SIN
266

  • Signifies the principle or force which is an integral part of every man's nature and which is evil in character and causes man to commit specific unrighteous acts or sins.
APPLICATION
The assertion of the text is this: our whole race of people is incapable of ever being justified, being made right, on the ground of having kept the requirements of the moral law of God.
What Paul has already stated in the last two chapters is mankind has shown he cannot live up to the standards of conduct that has been set by God as right and proper.
While man cannot be saved by the LAW there was a PURPOSE for the LAW.

  • Romans 5:20; 7:7;
    Galatians 3:19; 3:24 and I Timothy 1:9
THERE WAS A PURPOSE FOR THE LAW.

  • One could never know that they have failed to keep God's standard of right living unless they knew what the Law was.

  • Secondly the idea of the Law was to bring out the shortcoming and inability of man with respect to meeting God's requirements. Galatians 2:15-21
THERE IS A REASON WHY THERE IS A NEED TO BE JUSTIFIED BEFORE GOD.

  • All people are guilty before God and need to be justified by God.

  • THE LAW SHOWS US WE ARE GUILTY BEFORE GOD, AND WE NEED TO BE JUSTIFIED BY GOD IF WE ARE GOING TO BE SAVED FROM THE WRATH OF GOD.
