Any person who allows his anger to produces an infuriate, irritate, exasperate, irk, vex, peeve, madden attitude, can commit the crime that was done against those two young people in Roanoke VA this week. It is called in the Bible the sinful nature: the worldview is mental illness. Ephesians 4:26-31 In many cases anger is the cause of mental illness.

Continuationism or Cessationism

How are we to listen or not listen to those who believe that prophecy, tongues, interpretation of tongues and healing, and miracles still are to be believed and acted upon today?

Pentecostal Charismatic for example

Continuationism is a Christian theological belief that the gifts of the Holy Spirit have continued to this present age, specifically those sometimes called "sign gifts" such as tongues and prophecy. Continuationism is the opposite of Cessationism.

Continuationists believe that the miraculous gifts of the Holy Spirit are still distributed today, are still in use, and are still needed in the church. The same Holy Spirit that the Apostle Paul wrote of, claiming that it gave him supernatural abilities, was also written about in the Old Testament, which claims that it also endowed such abilities upon those God specifically chose to accomplish His works, as in the New Testament .    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Continuationism

Continuationism asserts that the Spirit still gives gifts so that the church may be strengthened and accomplish what God wants it to do today. Salvation, however, is not contingent upon the issue of the continuation or the cessation of the miraculous gifts. But this issue divides the church today as interpretations of the Scriptures will continue to differ.

But even if signs and wonders can't save the soul, they can, if God pleases, shatter the shell of disinterest; they can shatter the shell of cynicism; they can shatter the shell of false religion. Like every other good witness to the word of grace, they can help the fallen heart to fix its gaze on the gospel where the soul-saving, self-authenticating glory of the Lord shines. (Piper)
The teaching of cessationism (when it comes to gifts like tongues and prophecy) is in error.
Because whichever side is true has every right to ridicule and disparage and name and shame the other side.

Continuationism is the belief that the supernatural gifts of the Holy Spirit taught in the bible -- such as prophecy, tongues, interpretation of tongues, healings, miracles, etc. -- have not ceased and are available for the believer today (1 Cor. 1:7). Continuationism is the opposite of Cessationism which teaches that supernatural gifts have ceased either when the canon of Scripture was completed or at the death of the last apostle. Those who hold to continuationism are called continuationists or non-cessationists.

Cessationism, in Christian theology, is the view that the miraculous gifts of the Spirit, such as healing, tongues, and prophetic revelation, pertained to the apostolic era only, served a purpose that was unique to establishing the early church, and passed away before the canon of Scripture was closed (comp. 1 Cor. 13:8-12 with Heb. 2:3-4). It is contrasted with continuationism, which is the view that the miraculous gifts are normative, have not ceased, and are available for the believer today.

Are we to belive that God has closed the cannon of the Word of God?  Are we to believe that the Bible contains all that God wants us to know from Him that is authoritative and truth without error, or are we to believe that God is still given His revelation to some?

Martin Luther, of course, wrote, "Our Lord and Master Jesus Christ, when He said Poenitentiam gait, willed that the whole life of believers should be repentance." That is, our life is not the life of kicking at the goads against the God who is Love: it is knowing His will for us and then dying to sin in order to live in His new life .http://teampyro.blogspot.com/2010_07_01_archive.html

But, to close up here, this is where Christianity is above all false religions: those who are our enemies can be reconciled -- in fact, this is the purpose of our faith.
Christ died that those who live might no longer live for themselves but for Him who for their sake died and was raised.

Even though we once regarded Christ according to the flesh, we regard Him thus no longer.
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation; that is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation. Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God. For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God. 2 Corinthians 5:11- 21
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ,

he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation;
or God has done all this. He has restored our relationship with him through Christ, and has given us this ministry of restoring relationships.

Romans 5:10 For if, while we were God's enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life!
Romans 5:11 Not only is this so, but we also boast in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation.

Matthew Henry's Concise Commentary
2 Corinthians 5:16-21
The renewed man acts upon new principles, by new rules, with new ends, and in new company.
The believer is created anew; his heart is not merely set right, but a new heart is given him. He is the workmanship of God, created in Christ Jesus unto good works.
Though the same as a man, he is changed in his character and conduct. These words must and do mean more than an outward reformation.

The man who formerly saw no beauty in the Saviour that he should desire him, now loves him above all things.

The heart of the unregenerate is filled with enmity against God, and God is justly offended with him.
Yet there may be reconciliation. Our offended God has reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ. By the inspiration of God, the Scriptures were written, which are the word of reconciliation; showing that peace has been made by the cross, and how we may be interested therein. Though God cannot lose by the quarrel, nor gain by the peace, yet he beseeches sinners to lay aside their enmity, and accept the salvation he offers. Christ knew no sin. He was made Sin; not a sinner, but Sin, a Sin-offering, a Sacrifice for sin. The end and design of all this was, that we might be made the righteousness of God in him, might be justified freely by the grace of God through the redemption which is in Christ Jesus. Can any lose, labour, or suffer too much for Him, who gave his beloved Son to be the Sacrifice for their sins, that they might be made the righteousness of God in him We are Christ's Ambassadors  http://biblehub.com/2_corinthians/5-17.htm

…16Therefore from now on we recognize no one according to the flesh; even though we have known Christ according to the flesh, yet now we know Him in this way no longer. 17Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come. 18Now all these things are from God, who reconciled us to Himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation,…

A key distinction here is the distinction between rationally explicit processes, such as those involved when Luke wrote his Gospel, and intuitive processes, such as those involved with the Book of Revelation. One type of process is not inherently more “spiritual” than the other. Both the Gospel of Luke and Revelation were inspired.
Modern preaching is analogous to Luke: in composing a sermon rationally explicit processes dominate. Modern “prophecy” or intuitive speech is analogous to Revelation. Intuitive processes dominate. The general analogy between apostolic gifts and lesser gifts of the present day suggests that rationally explicit processes and intuitive processes can both be used by the Spirit today.  http://www.frame-poythress.org/modern-spiritual-gifts-as-analogous-to-apostolic-gifts-affirming-extraordinary-works-of-the-spirit-within-cessationist-theology/

What does  rationally explicit processes   in composing a sermon rationally explicit processes dominate. mean?

An explicit goal of the group is to bring about some kind of change, whether it be on a global, social, or ... A fiery, "hell and damnation" guilt-ridden sermon from the pulpit or several hours with ... compel and dominate the free wills or minds of its members through coercive .... It is a technological process that impairs rationality.

COERCIVE PERSUASION IS NOT VOLUNTARY, PEACEFUL, RELIGIOUS
PRACTICE OR CENTRAL TO ANY BONAFIDE RELIGION.

Coercive persuasion is not a religious practice, it is a CONTROL technology. It is not a belief or ideology, it is a technological process. As a PROCESS, it can be examined by experts on its technology COMPLETELY SEPARATE from any idea or belief content, similar to examining the technical process of hypnotic induction distinct from the meaning or value of the post-hypnotic suggestions. Examining PROCESSES in this manner can not violate First Amendment religious protections. Coercive persuasion is antithetical to the First Amendment.   It is the unfair manipulation of other's biological and psychological weaknesses and susceptibilities.   It is a psychological FORCE technology, not of a free society, but of a criminal or totalitarian society.   Any organization using coercive persuasion on its members as a CENTRAL practice that also claims to be a religion is turning the SANCTUARY of the First Amendment into a fortress for psychological assault.    It is a contradiction of terms and should be "disestablished."    Coercive persuasion is a subtle, compelling psychological force which attacks an even more fundamental and important freedom than our "freedom of religion." ITS REPREHENSIBILITY AND DANGER IS THAT IT ATTACKS OUR SELF-DETERMINISM AND FREE WILL, OUR MOST FUNDAMENTAL CONSTITUTIONAL FREEDOMS.

Every individual has a philosophy, even when they have never explicitly studied philosophy they develop one which tends to be a mix of ideas from surrounding culture. Philosophy, which is one’s interpretation of the world, effects every aspect of life governing all the choices we make - from career and family to what values we adopt - and the powerful role of philosophy in life is demonstrated unequivocally in The Enlightenment.

Every individual has a philosophy, even when they have never explicitly studied ... that existence was objective and understandable through logic and rationality. ... the dominant European religion, was on the virtue of poverty and suffering. ... In Sermons on Human Nature, Butler argued that we seek the good because we seek our well being, and under God the good and our well being are synonymous. The cynical Hobbesians and Calvinists, he argued, failed to see the beauty and moral worth of self love. To not seek happiness in this world is to criticize God’s very design itself.
He wrote – utler was the Spiritual advisor to the Queen of England, essentially the leading protestant theologian, and he would regularly address universities on Christian moral theology. A voice of tremendous influence rejecting Christian doctrine that had dominated for over a millennia. Butler celebrated rational self interest as moral and as God’s design. The influence he had over later deistic writers, such as Thomas Jefferson, can been seen clearly when comparing his views on self love in the pursuit of happiness to Jefferson’s opening to the Declaration of Independence. Butler wrote “…if in fact we are creatures of self love in pursuit of happiness then literally by God happiness was our birthright and coincident with virtue” and Jefferson - “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that [all men] are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.” - Both asserting that it was the nature of human existence according to God’s design to pursue happiness.

Monergism Refers to Regeneration

Ultimately,
  • The Foundational CORE Soteriological Difference Between Authentic Biblical Reformed Theology, and ALL other Theologies (eg, Arminianism, Catholicism, Pelagianism, etc...),is THIS : Divine Monergism VS. Human Synergism.

Technically, Divine Monergism specifically refers to REGENERATION (i.e., "Born-Again" John 3:3, 1 Peter 1:23), And Is Nothing Less Than An Absolute Miracle Of GOD Alone (John 1:13, 3:27, 6:63-65, 15:3, Titus 3:5-7, James 1:18), In Which HE Makes A Spiritually Dead Sinner Spiritually Alive (Ephesians 2:1-5, Colossians 2:13),  By Giving A New Heart And A New Spirit (Ezekiel 36:26-27), Thus Setting The Sinner Free From Sin (John 8:34-36), And Causing The New Creation In Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17, Ephesians 2:10) To Accordingly Respond To HIM (Psalm 65:4, 110:3/KJV, John 6:37, Acts 9:1-21, 13:48, 16:14, Romans 8:29-30, 9:23, 1 Corinthians 12:3, 12:13, Philippians 1:6, 2:13).

*The LORD Miraculously Opened Lydia's Heart So That She Could Respond (Acts 16:14, cf. 14:27, Luke 24:45)

*The GRACE Of Regeneration Always Comes BEFORE Faith (Not AFTER Faith) -Luke 1:15 (Regenerated In The Womb/BEFORE Birth & Faith, cf. Jeremiah 1:5, Galatians 1:15) Acts 9:1-21, 10:44, 13:48, 16:14 Romans 3:24-25 Ephesians 2:1-10 Colossians 2:13 2 Timothy 1:9 (Grace BEFORE Time)  Titus 3:5-7 (The Grace of Regeneration BOTH Precedes AND is Distinct FROM the Hope of Eternal Life)

*GOD Regenerates Us Through HIS Word (NOT Through Faith) -Psalm 119:50 John 6:63-65; 8:31-32; 15:3; 17:17 Romans 10:17 (First The WORD, Then HEARING, Then FAITH) 1 Corinthians 4:15 Ephesians 5:26; 6:17 (The WORD Of GOD Is The SWORD Of The SPIRIT)2 Timothy 1:10 James 1:18 1 Peter 1:23

*GOD Is The Sole CAUSE Of Regeneration (NOT our Faith) - Deuteronomy 30:6 Psalm 51:10, 65:4, 110:3/KJV Ezekiel 11:19-20, 36:26-27, 37:4-14 Jeremiah 24:7, 32:39-40 John 1:13, 3:3-8 (Literally,"Begotten From Above" cf. 3:27, 6:63-65) Acts 16:14 Romans 4:17, 9:16 2 Corinthians 4:6-7 Ephesians 2:1- 10 Philippians 1:6, 2:13 James 1:18 1 John 3:9

*GRACE Is The Foundational ROOT (2 Timothy 1:9, Titus 3:5-7), and Faith Is The Resultant FRUIT (Galatians 5:22/Literal, cf. Acts 13:48).  FAITH Is The RESULT Of HEARING, And HEARING Is The RESULT Of The WORD Of GOD (Romans 10:17, cf. John 6:63).

*According to Hebrews 12:2/Literal, Jesus Is BOTH The Originator & The Perfector of our Faith, Which proves that Faith does NOT Originate with us (cf. John 1:13, 3:27, 6:63-65),  That's Why It is NOT of us (Ephesians 2:8-10, Romans 9:16, James 1:18),  But It is a Gift that HE Gives to us (Philippians 1:29, cf. 2:13, Romans 12:3, 2 Peter 1:1).

*Regeneration Is 3 Dimensional Triune GRACE In Action -
  1. GOD Is The Sole CAUSE (Psalm 65:4, Ezekiel 36:26-27)
  2. The Holy SPIRIT Is The AGENT (John 3:8/Greek Text, John 6:63)
  3. The WORD Is The INSTRUMENT - The SWORD Of The SPIRIT (Ephesians 6:17, cf. John 6:63, Hebrews 4:12).

*Scripturally (cf. Ephesians 2:1-10),  It Is Important To Carefully Distinguish Between Regeneration (SAVED BY GRACE = The ROOT/2 Timothy 1:9),  And Conversion (THROUGH FAITH = The FRUIT/Galatians 5:22-23). This Distinction Is Logical (As To Order : ie, Cause & Effect), But Not Necessarily Chrono-Logical (As To Time).

*3 Very Common/Popular But UN-Biblical Synergistic Theories Of Regeneration -
Baptismal Regeneration (cf. Luke 23:43, John 6:63-65, Ephesians 5:26, James 1:18, 1 Peter 1:23)
Decisional Regeneration (cf. John 1:13, 6:63-65, 15:16, Acts 9:1-21, 16:14, Romans 9:16, James 1:18)

Faith Regeneration (cf. John 1:13, Acts 9:1-21, 16:14, James 1:18, 1 Peter 1:23).

*Salvation is OF THE LORD (Jonah 2:9), and It is BECAUSE OF HIM that we are in Christ (1 Corinthians 1:30), for HE Chose us in Christ BEFORE the Foundation of the World (Ephesians 1:4-11, cf. 2 Timothy

Preaching Sermons Preparation

A great time preaching this morning..., pray for my pastor for healing..., I got a message at 10am that I would be preaching today..., and it encourages this preacher to get to preach without much notice..., Nervous yes..., worried NO..., when God calls a man to preach..., he equips him to preach..., and here's a first..., I received a request by someone who wasn't there when I preached last time..., and wanted to hear that same message..., but about 5 minutes before preaching time..., the Spirit of God directed me to another message..., so what did I do? I preached 2 messages this morning.... and as only He can do..., the Holy Spirit knit both messages together..., and "...all things worked together for good this morning"..., thank you LORD!  Terry Rollins Sr.

and Mom is behind the mike.

When my Dad was living and preaching for 44 years, he would say "Charles what would like to hear me preach tonight?" Having hear him preach 1000 sermons I did have a few that I really loved. "Dad preach on 'The Four Greatest Words in the Bible'." or "The Black Out at Calvary." After 44 years Dad did could preach a sermon anytime and anywhere.
Dr. R.J. Barber Sr. and Dad Everette Whisnant, in 1954
Building of Williamsroad Baptist Church in Roanoke Virginia

Back in the day, I was taught to say before I preached: "The pastor ask me to preach this morning at 9 a.m., so be ready. I am sure the Holy Spirit will give you a message." I was 17 years old. The sermon lasted 10 minutes.

Of course today, I have almost all the sermons I have preached, somewhere, I could rather easy pull one out and preach.

Dad's friend Fate Spencer ask Dad, if I would like to preach at his church one Sunday in Hildebrand NC. I was 16.5 years old. My first experience outside Sunday School class. So I took one of Charles Spurgeon's sermon, (true story) and read his introduction. I should have ran that idea over with my Dad first. Glad Charity was not there.

Once I was preaching a message, and half way through it, I thought this sermon is so badly said, that I changed the sermon to another one. Charity said "What in the world, did the Holy Spirit tell you to do that????"

In my case, I have almost all the sermons I have preached, I can usually pull out one that I sense the Lord would have me to preach, on a moment notice. I don't think I have ever gone to the pulpit with no idea what I would say. But I have said a few things I didn't think I would say after I started preaching. Charity said, "Charles where did that come from?" I was afraid to say it came from the Holy Spirit!!!!

This last year at Rivers of Joy Baptist Church, Minford Ohio I came to the pulpit and took out my typed manuscript and begin to read. First Peter 2. As I was reading , it appeared to me something is just not right. But I did not want to stop. Well what I discovered after 8 pages, I had started on page 8 and went to page 1. Preached the sermon backward. Never did that before!!! Charity was teaching the kids, thank goodness.

Preachers will get up and say, "The Lord gave me this sermon this morning."  Funny thing, I took the same notes from a fellowship meeting the same time.

I have always said, I don't think I have preached many original sermons.  There have been some that I wonder where they came from.

I started out with my Dad's notes. (1963-1966)  Then went to Seminary had used Dr. Martins sermons, and Dr. Barber notes. (1966-70)  Then went to Hyle's Anderson's College, and took notes from Dr. Hyles sermons.  I could only use his points, most of what he said, I could not have said.

Then I adopted John MacArthur's method of teaching the Scripture in 1982.  I have always said, I have used John's message.  Then after some training, and learning and after getting some reference help, I used a lot of resources for the sermons.

When preaching from Ephesians, Philippians one chapter at a time, one verse at a time, and sometimes on word at a time, I used a lot of reference.  I have never made an interpretation without first check it out with another.  Calvin, Luther, MacArthur, Lloyd Jones, Greene, Sproul, Stott, Henry, Barkley,  Barnes, Barclay, Clarke, Criswell, Ironside,  Jowett, Jamieson, McGee, Meyer, Ortlund, Pritchard, A.T. Robertson,  Stedman, Sprugeon, Scroll, Vincent.to name a few.

As for a correct theological understanding, I go to theological reference books.

Once back in 1985 I remember typing on a typewritter, a sermon that was about 16 pages, I really from my head, wrote out what I was thinking.  Well, the electric  went out and so went the sermon. I could not rewrite it again.

What Does the Bible Say About Trans-Gender Identity?

We believe that the Bible is the authority on the Trans gender issue.

We have placed our understanding of gender to the Bible.  We believe that the Word of God is truth. We accept the what the Word of God has said.

We form our belief from the study of the Scripture's.

Has the Bible redefine Gender from Man and and Woman?

Last month, a professor and former dean of theology who changed gender identities argued that the Bible defends those who renounce their birth gender, while a leading biblical expert on homosexuality said it condemns them as an "abomination

"I was dying last year because I couldn't live that way anymore. .. I tried to be the best Christian woman I could be and today I get to be the best Christian I can be and the best person I can be," Heather Ann Clements, former head of the theology department at Azusa Pacific University (APU) in Los Angeles, Calif., said in a sermon proposing a biblical defense of transgender identity. During that sermon, he came out as a transgender man, Heath Adam Ackley. Embracing his identity as a man, he claimed it empowered him to love God and others more.

The writers of Scripture viewed any attempts at overriding one's birth-sex as abhorrent, a sacrilege against the structures of maleness or femaleness created by God, and ultimately a rebellion against the Creator who made our bodies," retorted Robert A. J. Gagnon, an associate professor of New Testament at Pittsburgh Theological Seminary who is considered the foremost expert on the Bible and homosexuality. Gagnon addressed Ackley's arguments head on.

There is a listed various groups in the ancient Biblical setting who attempted to transform their masculinity into femininity: assinnus, kurgarrûs, or kulu'us; the galli. Deuteronomy 23:18 labels a similar group "an abomination,"

Some argued, listing other passages which mention these effeminate men (Deut 23:17-18; 1 Kings 14:24; 15:12; 22:46; 2 Kings 23:7; cf. Job 36:14).

It could be true for some people who embrace a gender identity at odds with their birth sex, some parts of the brain may function like the opposite sex. Nevertheless, chromosomes, genitalia, other external features, and hormones all fit one's birth sex, showing God's design.

Parents a warning, letting your children, have these video games, in letting the world, flesh and Satan into the lives of your children’s mind

As events are demonstrating daily, the rise of zombies is causing serious problems in society today. Urgent action is required. I offer the following white paper on zombie abatement for your immediate consideration.

Zombies have been a societal problem since humans first descended from the trees to wander the African savannas, but up until recently the “living dead” have been little more than a nuisance in the everyday affairs of the living. It is only in recent decades that our zombie problem has reached epidemic proportions. Until now, this blight upon society has gone largely unnoticed. This white paper is an attempt to clarify the nature of the rapidly developing problem of modern zombification and to suggest techniques for abating the rampant rise of zombism.

Well, it looks like the BBC has finally announced a first… a reality TV zombie series. And it sounds like so much fun…

I Survived A Zombie Apocalypse is a reality event on a huge scale for BBC Three

In a unique, new twist on the reality game show, BBC Three is taking a group of contestants and putting them through a zombie apocalypse.

Eight contestants will begin an apocalyptic adventure trapped together in a shopping mall, surrounded by the walking dead. The contestants must live by their wits, make difficult decisions, and use urban survival tactics. Their ultimate goal is to avoid the lethal bite of a zombie and stay alive.

During their intense stay, they will face tasks that are necessary for their survival. These tasks are potentially dangerous and will put them in close contact with the undead. The threat will be constant: one bite and they will leave the show in grisly style.
