Dealing with False Security of Salvation

PAUL IN ROMANS 2 IS DEALING WITH PEOPLE WHO HAD A FALSE CONCEPTION OF THEIR BELIEF THEY WERE IN FAVOR WITH GOD.

If anyone believed they were going to heaven the Jews believed they were. So how can you know if you are really going to Heaven? Well, the Jews certainly had the favor of God as a nation. They certainly had the Law of God. What the Jews didn't have is the belief in God.

Too many people believe they don't have to really believe in what God is saying to be saved. They have a head knowledge of Christ but do not have a heart felt belief that Christ is Lord of their life. So they go on doing what ever they desire to do, and believe that God want punish them.

Sunday June 06, 2010 I spoke on this subject. One verse at a time.

I might add, I spoke from Romans at the First Baptist Church in Altoona, Kansas back in 1989. The truth is still the same in 2010 at the Rivers of Joy Baptist Church in Minford, Ohio.

As a footnote: In 1988 I was in the process of understanding the method of preaching and teaching the Bible. I have often stated that I learned from John MacArthur, Jr. I am a little embarrassed even to say that, because John is such a wonderful teacher of the word.

I too often say, "I believe John is using my notes." When the fact is I used John's notes while teaching Romans. But to be sure I have been able to continue to learn to understand the Scripture. Understanding the text has not come easy for me, but the search and study has been the joy of my week.

Rivers of Joy Baptist Church

Well, Charity is nice, she liked this photo of me, of course she is my wife of 40.11 years too.
Bill Bower uses a notebook for his music on Sunday and Wednesday

I like to use notes too. These notes in this photo are notes from my study of Proverbs back in 1989-91 at First Baptist Church in Altoona, Kansas. I am using them again in 2009-10 at Rivers of Joy Baptist Church in Minford, Ohio.

I am sure events and time and place has a lot to do with reasons why we change jobs. Some pastors are able to stay in the same church for 40 to 50 years and have fruitful ministries.

I have enjoyed teaching and preaching at Rivers of Joy over the last two years. And really hope I can continue for a few more years. I have never just like to be a pastor for the sake of being a pastor. Just to have a place to preach and teach. Of course you want to be productive in your work and see the Lord use you in the ministry. But I can tell you the joy of preaching is certainly the greatest joy you can have as a preacher.

HOW DOES GOOGLE SEARCH WORK ANYWAY

"Caffeine lets us index web pages on an enormous scale. In fact, every second Caffeine processes hundreds of thousands of pages in parallel. If this were a pile of paper it would grow three miles taller every second. Caffeine takes up nearly 100 million gigabytes of storage in one database and adds new information at a rate of hundreds of thousands of gigabytes per day. You would need 625,000 of the largest iPods to store that much information; if these were stacked end-to-end they would go for more than 40 miles."

Now as I was reading this information this morning, I was thinking how good it would be to be able to process every problem, every question, every inquiry that we have about life and put in into the data base of the Bible.

For example, as I taught on Global Warming this last Sunday, the question or inquiry I had earlier in the study, "Does God's Word have any thing to say about the environment?" I mean should we have to repent for "green sins," are we "green sinners."

Is there a Bible Index Google Engine?

Its easy to say, that the Bible contains in its pages the answer to all our inquiries about life. I often say, "we don't need a psychologist we have the Apostles Paul and Peter, and Farmer Job." We don't need books on marriage we have the book of Ephesians.

BIBLE SEARCH ENGINE. Of course there are many resourceful books like the Strong's and Vine's and the Dickson's Bible, and the Thompson Chain Reference Bible.

But there was a question that came up on the Blog this morning, a group of preachers in the south were asking the question. "Should a fellow pastor take down a picture of Robert E. Lee that is hanging in his office?" Bible Google that, if you please.

I was reading yesterday a company has produced a software that has all of Charles Spurgeon's sermons on the disk. But not only his sermons, but also his books and papers. Then they have a search database that has made it possible to find any quote Spurgeon has made on a given subject. I wonder what he thought on getting along with other Christian preachers who don't believe just exactly like you do?

I often ask myself, I wonder what John MacArthur, Jr. thinks about this issue? Or maybe I would ask John Calvin, or even some of my fellow pastors.

I have found that Google search engine does have the ability to find articles on the web that do pertain to any given subject. I wanted to find the web site which had the "THE GREEN BIBLE." And sure enough they took me right to the website, and then gave places to buy the book.

Today, thinking is almost an art of the past. Who has to really think a lot when you have the data on the web, and at your finger tips you have Google.

My Movie 2

\

I really enjoy this way of putting together photos. And putting music to the movie was good too. I just keep learning. I wish I had the photo that was lost on the old computer. So I need to start over again.

DEALING WITH A FALSE SECURITY

DEALING WITH FALSE SECURITY

Romans 2:17-19

Charles E. Whisnant, Pastor/Teacher

June 06 2010 Rivers of Joy Baptist Church, Minford, Ohio

17Behold, thou art called a Jew, and restest in the law, and makest thy boast of God,  18And knowest his will, and approvest the things that are more excellent, being instructed out of the law;  19And art confident that thou thyself art a guide of the blind, a light of them which are in darkness,  20An instructor of the foolish, a teacher of babes, which hast the form of knowledge and of the truth in the law.  21Thou therefore which teachest another, teachest thou not thyself? thou that preachest a man should not steal, dost thou steal?

SECURITY ON THE MINDS OF A LOT OF PEOPLE:

  • Everyone wants security: job security, marriage, economically, home, business, social security.
  • People without security leads to insecurity which leads to a state of mind characterized by self doubt, emotional drama, and personality problems.

Security defined: "the state or feeling of being safe and protected, the assurance that something of value will not be taken away."

Spiritual Security: Free from thinking about going to Hell. Free to believe everything is okay and you are going to Heaven.

  • Every person has a conscience. Every person knows right and wrong. Every person knows what guilt is. A lot of people fear the consequences of their wrong judgments.
  • People really don't like to have their confidence destroyed. They want to believe their belief will be okay, and they will be in heaven.

PAUL HAS LAID OUT THE FALSE SAFETY MEASURES THAT SO MANY GROUPS HAVE.

You really are doing people a huge act of kindness when you tell them they are putting stock in a company that is going out of existence .

THE JEWS FALSE SAFETY MEASURE OF SECURITY

  1. That they were a part of the nation Israel
  2. That they possessed the Law of God.
  3. That they were circumcised.

HOW MANY PEOPLE HIDE BEHIND THE FALSE SECURITY OF THEIR RELIGION?

False measures that people make in order to have some sense of security about the afterlife.

  1. God couldn't be a God that would let me go to Hell.
  2. There is no God you know.
  3. I made a profession of faith once.
  4. I was sprinkled as a child.
  5. I did ask Jesus to come into my heart once.
  6. I believe in eternal security.

HERE IS A NEEDFUL QUESTION TO ASK YOURSELF:

  • "What right do I have to enter into Heaven?" Nearly everyone has an answer to that one.
  • They are building a wall of protection around them so they can feel free of judgment.

JESUS was teaching the Sermon on the Mount in Matthew 5-7. Jesus gives examples how the Jews had built up a wall of false security, overconfidence in their thinking about how they were going to make it into heaven. Jesus just stripped them bare of their confidence.

THE KEY TO TEACHING AND SHARING THE GOSPEL

  • Leading them to know they have no resources, no protection, no hope, no solution, no security.

Here is why the Jews believed they really were secure in going to Heaven

"But if you bear the name Jew: and rely upon the Law: and boast in God." or

"Behold, thou art called a Jew, and rest in the Law, and make thy boast of God."

  1. Romans 2:28-29; 9:4-7; Psalms 135:4; Isaiah 48:1-2; Matthew 3:9; 8:11-12; John 8:33 (2) Romans 2:23; 9:4, 32; Jeremiah 7:4-10 (3) Isaiah 45:25;48:2; John 8:41
  2. Hebrew
    distinguishes a Hebrew-speaking Jew from a Greek-speaking one.
  3. Jew
distinguishes a Jew from a Gentile, and denotes nationality.
  4. Israelite
is the most august title of all, speaking of the fact that the Jew is a member of the theocracy, and thus an heir of the promises (Trench).

"I am a Jew and proud of it." Boasting of privilege can become an attitude of pride. "That makes me better than others." You might feel superior to others. To be best is to be a Jew. To have God is the best, we are special above others.

Boast
in God. That attitude of pride, because he thinks God owes him something because he is superior to everyone else.

SO WHAT IS THE EFFECT OF THIS KIND OF ATTITUDE THE JEWS HAD?

They believed they could live any way they wanted and everything would turn out okay, because God was obligated to them, because they were so much better than anyone else. Micah 3:11They believed as children of Abraham they were secure.
