What is the process of coming to faith and salvation ?

Romans 10:9-10 and 13-17

How Shall People Be Saved? 10:13-21

13 For "everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved."

14 But how are they to call on him in whom they have not believed?

And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard?

And how are they to hear without someone preaching?

15 And how are they to preach unless they are sent? As it is written, "How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!"

16 But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Isaiah says, "Lord, who has believed what he has heard from us?"

17 So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.

18 But I ask, have they not heard? Indeed they have, for "Their voice has gone out to all the earth, and their words to the ends of the world." 19 But I ask, did Israel not understand? First Moses says, "I will make you jealous of those who are not a nation; with a foolish nation I will make you angry."

20 Then Isaiah is so bold as to say, "I have been found by those who did not seek me; I have shown myself to those who did not ask for me." 21 But of Israel he says, "All day long I have held out my hands to a disobedient and contrary people."

How you can be saved from God's wrath and from the guilt and dominion of sin with the hope of eternal life in God.

What is the process of coming to faith and salvation ?

Keep in mind that the problem Paul is dealing with in Romans 9 and 10 is mainly the unbelief of Israel and why it happened and why this does not undermine the faithfulness and reliability of God.

So what Paul does in the last verses of Romans 10 is show once more that the reason most of Israel does not have a share in salvation is that they do not believe in the Messiah, Jesus.

What are the prerequisites of salvation? Maybe they missed it? Maybe they didn't believe because they didn't have what they need to know to be held accountable to believe.

So Paul is going to specifically spell out the steps to salvation that apply to the Jews or for that matter anyone else. And Paul's argues that they had all they needed to know to be saved.

WHAT ARE THOSE STEPS WE NEED TO KNOW TO BE A PART OF GOD'S SAVING PLAN? ROMANS 10:14-17

WHAT THE CONDITIONS ARE THAT HAVE BEEN PUT IN PLACE FOR ISRAEL AND THAT MUST BE PUT IN PLACE WHENEVER ANYONE IS TO BE SAVED?

Romans 10:14-15 and 16 cf. Isaiah 53:1

1. A preacher must preach the gospel of grace
2. The sent preacher must preach the good news that there is hope
3. The preacher good news must be heard
4. The heard good news must be believed
5. The belief must be the kind that calls on God for salvation.

Sending, preaching, hearing, believing, calling on God.

Then vs. 17 So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.

So we have: Sending to preach, preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ, hearing the gospel of Christ, and believing in this Christ, then calling on the Lord Jesus for salvation.

CHAPTER IV The last principle I shall insist on (omitting, first, the necessity of mortification unto life, and, secondly, the certainty of life upon mortification) is, –
III. That the life, vigour, and comfort of our spiritual life depend much on our mortification of sin.
Strength and comfort, and power and peace, in our walking with God, are the things of our desires. Were any of us asked seriously, what it is that troubles us, we must refer it to one of these heads: — either we want strength or power, vigour and life, in our obedience, in our walking with God; or we want peace, comfort, and consolation therein. Whatever it is that may befall a believer that doth not belong to one of these two heads, doth not deserve to be mentioned in the days of our complaints.

Now, all these do much depend on a constant course of mortification, concerning which observe, –
1. I do not say they proceed from it, as though they were necessarily tied to it. A man may be carried on in a constant course of mortification all his days; and yet perhaps never enjoy a good day of peace and consolation. So it was with Heman, Ps. 138; his life was a life of perpetual mortification and walking with God, yet terrors and wounds were his portion all his days. But God singled out Heman, a choice friend, to make an example to them that afterward should be in distress. Canst thou complain if it be no otherwise with thee than it was with Heman, that eminent servant of God? and this shall be his praise to the end of the world. God makes it his prerogative to speak peace and consolation, Isa. 57:18,19. “I will do that work,” says God, “I will comfort him,” verse 18. But how? By an immediate work of the new creation: “I create it,” says God. The use of means for the obtaining of peace is ours; the bestowing of it is God’s prerogative.

 logizomai from logos = reason, word, account0 means to reckon, compute, calculate, to take into account, to deliberate, and to weigh.

 Refers to a process of careful study or reasoning which results in the arriving at a conclusion.

 In Paul’s day: “Meant to impute (put to one’s account) or credit to one’s account.

 The word related to our English term logic (which deals with the methods of valid thinking, reveals how to draw proper conclusions from premises and is a prerequisite of all thought.

Make a mental calculation. And let us consider ourselves as actually dead to sin. In the same way, you must see yourself a being dead to sin.

As when a family will say “as far as we are concern he is dead to us.” Yet he is alive.

Paul is telling us to reflect on our position in Christ and to place two things into our spiritual bank account: 1. We are “dead to sin.” 2. We are “alive to God in Christ Jesus.”

Here is the necessary action you must take when you are hearing the Words of Paul in Romans 6: You must take time to consider the facts and make this exercises habitual, not just giving an occasional casual thought to.

ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord."—Romans 6:11.

Believers Have the Peace of God Romans 5:1

In this area of Ohio, it seems I have been told, there is the belief that you can be truly converted and then fall from grace.  If that is true, I believe all true converted people should leave this part of Ohio.   

If you can lose your salvation, you had better learn how not to lose it. If you made salvation conditional, then it’s only good as long as you can maintain the conditions of keeping your salvation. 

o   The question is: Is there a works/righteousness perspective in our salvation?
